Implications

This project reflects the Pensby Center’s mission of diversity, inclusion and community development at Bryn Mawr because it creates a record of the diverse gender identities and gender expressions of Mawrters.

By establishing a historical narrative about gender identity at the college and providing a digital imprint of this narrative that anyone can access, the project aims to further community discussions about gender at the college. Members of the Bryn Mawr community benefit directly from this archive because anyone is able to explore the archive’s material and learn from it.

Perhaps most importantly, students at Bryn Mawr who are exploring their own gender identities will have this established history, documented evidence that the college has historically been home to students to whom they can relate. Prospective students considering Bryn Mawr will also be able to educate themselves about the past and current attitudes about gender prevalent on campus.
